![]() He served the duration of the war, was Breveted Lieutenant Colonel on October 21st, 1865, was mustered out on January 15th, 1866. During the Civil War, Adams enlisted on November 26th, 1862 as a Major and was appointed by President Lincoln as a Paymaster. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1862, although he seems never to have practiced but rather to have engaged in various mercantile trades throughout his life. He moved to Minneapolis in 1883.Adams was educated at Chester Academy, Springfield Academy, Thetford and West Randolph Academies in Vermont before attending Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire in 18. ![]() He was elected to the Minnesota State Senate from Monticello (District 19) as a Democrat in 1857 and served thru 1860.
